Rs 20 crore aid for three Dima Hasao hospitals

GUWAHATI: State health minister HimantaBiswaSarma on Saturday announced a one-time special assistance for the Haflong, Maibong and Umrangso civil hospitals in DimaHasao district. The minister also assured special packages and incentives for doctors serving in the district. An amount of Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for modernization and upgrade of these three hospitals.

In a joint meeting with the representatives of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Haflong, and the National Rural Health Mission, Sarma said, "We have sanctioned Rs 20 crore as a one-time special assistance to these three hospitals because their infrastructure needs a lot of development in order to cater to a larger number of patients."

He said doctors do not want to work in Dima Hasao district because it is considered a disturbed area. So, to motivate doctors to work in the district, special packages and incentives will be given to doctors working in Dima Hasao.

The meeting also resolved that the NRHM would be given the power to appoint medical and civil works staff in the NC Hills Autonomous Council for smooth functioning and uplift of medical infrastructure in Dima Hasao.
