Thalfavang Kut celebrated in Mizoram

AIZAWL, Dec 2 : As of every year, one of the popular cultural festivals in Mizoram “Thalfavang Kut” (winter festival) was held on Friday and Saturday at Hmuifang Tourist resort with pomp and gaiety.

Governor of Mizoram Vakkom B Purusthothaman inaugurated the big cultural event. Addressing the festival being filled with eye-catching cultural displays, the Governor said that for being a peaceful State and owing to the friendliness, hospitability and intelligence of the people in it, Mizoram has got a great chance and potential for tourism development.

Progress in Tourism can bring in huge income for the people in the state, the Governor further said, adding, to promote tourism cultural development is necessary.

The Governor also appreciated the fast popularity gained by Mizo culture and music in the country and commented that the performance of Mizo cultural dance and music in the recent International Film Festival in Goa city was fascinating and an eye-catching one.

The Governor also on the day inaugurated Tourism Department Conference Hall at Hmuifang Resort.

Tourism Department Director Vabeiha, on the other, who presided over the inauguration of the festival today, informed that this is the third time Hmuifang tourist resort hosts the “Thalfavang Kut”. The main objective of the festival is to draw tourists in from within and outside the State, he added.

The first day of the festival was marked with presentation of cultural dances and folk music- of both traditional and modernized versions.

Besides, attractive photo exhibition, Kite-flying; Handloom Show & Sale also adds to the mesmerizing colour the cultural event.

Delicious foods items are also made available for the participants in the event, also being designed as a kind of Advance Christmas celebration too.
The festival will continue tomorrow and ends by evening.
