The rallyists demanded that the woman be fully compensated and the culprit punished according to law.
Women folk from various walks of life and affiliations today began their rally from Lamka Public Ground and concluded at the DC's office wherein they were addressed by the Deputy Commissioner.
The Deputy Commission-er, Jacintha Lazarus tendered her apology to the victim on behalf of the district administration saying, 'I do apologise to the victim that she had to undergo such a kind of the thing in the district when it is our responsibility that we should have kept the district peaceful and ensure that these things are not happening' .
In the same breath, she called on the public to refrain from storming the police station at any opportunity.
'It's becoming a kind of a recurring thing.
Whatever action we have taken it becomes meaningless if we keep on at-tacking the police station,' she said adding the Police station has been attacked 2/3 times in recent days.
She thanked the participating women folk for holding the peace rally telling them that the kind of rally would be a better way of expressing their anger or frustration or telling that they were not going to accept certain things, and most importantly that they are also acting on the ambit of the law and not above the law.
She also commended the SP for apprehending the culprit within a few hours.
Lazarus has assured that she would be personally monitoring the case very closely so that there is a quick trail for the culprit and that due punishment is given to them.
