Chidambaram’s reaction came on a day, when the BJP attacked the Congress-led Government over its handling of the situation in Manipur. This situation is the making of the incapable political leadership of the ruling SPF-Congress-CPI combine. Arrogance and indifference have become the inalienable characteristic of the present Government, BJP national president, Nitin Gadkari charged.
Presenting his report for the month of September, the Union Home Minister, replying to questions said that he has met both the groups, which are blocking the NH, one is the Kuki and the other is the Naga of the Jiribam area, he added.
The Chief Minister has constituted a District Reorganisation Commission and has requested them to be patient until the report of the commission comes, Chidambaram said.
The National Highway - 27 (NH), meanwhile, is being blocked at several places, nevertheless, the convoys bring 1000-1100 trucks to the valley every week though the blockade has pushed up prices, the Home Minister admitted.
“These are sensitive issues, which had to be resolved at the local level,” he said.
“I appeal to both the Kukis and Nagas to be patient and allow the District Reorganisation Commission to do its work and give its report,” he said.
“Although curving out of a district may be a small matter in many States, but in the North-east even creation of a district becomes a sensitive matter,” Chidambaram observed.
Meanwhile, the BJP president addressing the meeting of the Party’s national executive said that after nearly more than two months of the crippling economic blockade on the National Highways, prices have gone up between Rs 45 and Rs 50 for a kilogram of potato, Rs 100 or so for a kilogram of tomato, Rs 70 to Rs 90 for a kilogram of onions, Rs 140 or so for a litre of petrol in the black market.
