False Reporting by Telegraph and Sentinel

To,
Dear Editor

Please do release the following news item which is being send by the President of Hmar Students’ Association, Barak Valley, Assam on 12 July 2011.
The Hmar Students’ Association has strongly deplore and condemn the attempted vilification and smear campaign unleashed by several dailies in the backdrop of the unfortunate killing of Shri. Babul Rongmai, Chairman, Barak Valley Hill Tribes’ Dev. Council. The report that this killing was a pre-meditated plan so as to shift the blame for the murder on Rongmai Nagas is highly objectionable and despicable. The students’ body smells a deep-rooted conspiracy to malign the image of the Hmar people and would like to question these dailies where they received such baseless report. Moreover, the name of the alleged killer mentioned as Blinkson Hmar is fictitious and fabricated. Such communal overtone and attempted smear campaign against the Hmar community is totally uncalled for and hence condemnable.
On the contrary we urged the Govt. of Assam to conduct an impartial inquiry to find out the real culprit behind this dastardly killing. We the students’ body deeply mourn the demise of Shri. Babul Rongmai and offered our heartfelt condolence to his near and dear ones.
However, we urged those dailies not to publish baseless allegation for the sake of peace and tranquility among the various ethnic groups in Barak Valley region.
