On the opening day of first seminar of its kind at the Indian Institute of Advanced (IIAS) on Wednesday, Archbishop of Guwahati Dr Thomas Menamparambil and National Council for Higher Education member Mrinal Miri cautioned against any shift from the value-based education and asked to make it more relevant to the needs of a secular society.
Earlier, Dr Peter Ronald deSouza, Director of IIAS, who rolled out the agenda for in-depth discussions on the issues relating to Christian educational institutions, suggested the need for such institutions to be “forward” looking rather than “business as usual” concepts.
More than 50 academicians from all over the country are participating in the seminar. Prominent among them are JNU professors Virginus Xaxa, Valerian Rodrigues, Joseph Bara and St Bede’s College, Shimla, principal Sr Molly Abraham. The seminar is being jointly organised by IIAS, Assam Don Bosco University and Salessian College Sonada/Siliguri.
