On September 1, the tribal apex bodies had asserted that the HAC should convene a meeting and take appropriate steps to either repeal the bills - the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015; the Mani-pur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment 2015); the Manipur Shop and Establishments (Second Amendment 2015) - or insert exceptional clause in the Bills within 10 (ten) days.
With all eyes now focused on what the hill MLAs reaction would be, the JAC has announced to relax their agitation till 12 noon tomorrow for the public to procure their essential commodities.
The relaxation, according to the JAC will be followed by a total bandh wherein all offices and establishments except those of medical depart- ment, water supply, telecom, electricity and media houses will be closed in support of the ultimatum served to the HAC. The ultimatum will expire on Wednesday midnight.
The JAC statement said that it receives undesirable response from the HAC within the stipulated time, all the elected tribal MLAs in the State must resign from their respective post or should be ready to face pubic boycott.
The JAC also appealed to the public for peace and calm during this time of crisis. It further claimed that none of its activities are directed towards any particular community and added that they are rather working for the betterment of all the communities residing in the district and beyond.
