New Delhi, Jun 10 : A woman from Manipur was allegedly molested by a motorcyclist at south-east Delhi’s Madangiri on Sunday.

The accused has been arrested, police said on Monday. The investigating officers are probing whether the case stemmed from road rage or happened to be a hate crime.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Faizal. Police said the woman was on her way to her rented house when the incident took place at 9 pm.

She told police that she was walking on the street when the accused came from behind on his motorcycle and bumped into her.

“She was startled, following which she screamed at Faizal to watch where he was going,” a police officer said. This apparently angered Faizal, who then skidded to a halt in front of her and blocked her way.

Faizal got down from the motorcycle and began to argue with her. The woman said that locals had gathered at the spot, but nobody intervened even as Faizal allegedly slapped her.

“She said she was slapped at least five times, besides being verbally abused,” the officer added. The woman alleged that Faizal shoved her around, pulled her hair and even molested her in full public view.

The woman immediately informed her friends and approached police, after which a case was filed with Ambedkar Nagar police station.

The charges are of causing hurt and outraging the modesty of a woman under the Indian Penal Code. Police are yet to ascertain whether the incident was triggered due to road rage.

The woman had noted down the registration number of the motorcycle, which helped police locate Faizal. He was nabbed from his house.
