Development in the society remains stagnant because the people blame one
another, Nehginpao Kipgen, a US based Political Scientist, has pointed
out while interacting with the people of Sadar Hills during a one-day
seminar held under the theme of "Democratic Transition & Kuki
Society' at District Council Hall, Kangpokpi yesterday.
The event was organised jointly by Sadar Hills based Civil Organizations including Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, KSO Sadar Hills and Sadar Hills Women Union.
Nehginpao, who is also the general secretary of the US based Kuki International Forum(KIF), further said that everyone in the society have their own responsibility for its development as well as its declination and the blame game existed when the people as well as the authority paid little important to their rights.
When there is sincerity, honesty and faithfulness with an attitude of equal opportunities, equal rights, equal benefits towards the people on the part of the authority as well as confidence, thrust, cooperation with an attitude of faithfulness and patient towards the authority on the part of the people, there will be no question of blame game and development will dominate the society automatically, added Nehginpao Kipgen.
Explaining three stages of classification of democracy, viz.
Democratization, Democratic Transition and Democratic Consolidation, the Political Scientist pointed out that India, though, being the largest and one of the oldest democratic countries in the world is still in the stage in the second stage-Democratic Transition and added that the people as well as the authority still do not accept democracy or strengthen it.
It is important for a democratic country to be in the stage of Democratic Consolidation where the people as well as the authority concerned accept and strengthen as well as unified with Democracy, he added.
Nehginpao also pointed out that the impact of Democracy movement or political movement of Myanmar in India will positively be helpful and benefit.
Speaking on education issue, Nehginpao asserted that quality of education is far better and more important than quantity education.
He also emphasized on the significance of quality education particularly among the Kukis.
He also opined that Judicial system of justice will be much better than customary practices while dealing with any kinds of crimes particularly crimes against women, which become a dreadful threat to women in the state as well.
However, the Political Scientist also accepted customary system if satisfactorily and sincerely accepted by both parties.
