4 millionaires in fray in outer ST seat in Manipur

Four of the 10 politicians who were in the fray in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary (Reserved) Constituency were millionaires as per the affidavits they submitted at the time of filing their nomination papers. As per the affidavits, 76-year-old Chungkhokai Doungel of NCP, has a cash amount of Rs two lakh in hand, with an additional 1,30,77,892 INR movable and immovable assets, is the wealthiest candidate. His assets included those of his family members as well.
Former MP Mani Charenamei, who filed nomination paper as independent candidate is the second richest person with Rs 1,21,45,552 worth movable and immovable assets.
As per his affidavit, he has Rs 3 lakh in hand along with another Rs 4 lakh in the name of his wife. His total asset including those of his children is Rs 1,21,45,552.  Based on the available affidavit, the Manipur unit NPF president and NPF candidate Soso Lorho has Rs 10 lakh in hand with an asset of Rs 1,15,57,900 movable and immovable properties.
On the other hand, with an asset worth Rs 1,07,26,364, BJP’s candidate Prof Gangmumei Kamei is the fourth richest candidate. The former minister has joined politics after retirement from a professor of Manipur University
Former MP Kim Gangte, who filed her nomination paper in Trinamool Congress has Rs 50, 000 in hand although she has an asset worth Rs 6,30,000 in total inclusive of immovable and movable items. The sitting MP Congress nominee Thangso Baite has Rs 85,000 in hand even though he has a total asset of Rs 60,32,000 inclusive of those owned in the names of his family.  Ten politicians have filed their nomination papers for candidature in the elections to the outer parliamentary seat which the polling will be taken place on April 9. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held Monday at Thoubal DC office who is the RO at 11 am.
On the other hand, with a view to check distribution of cash to voters by candidates/parties and transfer of money in the run up to the Lok Sabha election, a total of 13 flying squads have been constituted by the state election department.
Counting of votes for the two-phased Lok Sabha election would begin from 8 am of May 15, the ECI informed the CEO.
