Lawmkunga appointed new Chief Secretary

Imphal, Aug 1 : Additional Chief Secretary (Environment & Forest/MOBC & SC) Pachuau Lawmkunga has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Manipur with effect from August 1 as per an order issued by Under Secretary (Department of Personnel) today.

An IAS officer of 1979 batch in Manipur-Tripura cadre, Lawmkunga was born on October 1, 1955 at Mualthuam Village in Mizoram.

He is the son of (late) Khuacheuva.

The new Chief Secretary is a BA Honours in Political Science.

He was first posted as SDO/BDO at Kangpokpi and later at Chandel Sub-Division during 1981-82 .

He went on to hold important posts under State Government including Excise and Taxation Commissioner, DC/DM of Tamenglong, Director of DIPR, Tribal Development, Vigilance Department etc. and Secretary of different departments from 1991 to 1993.He was also on deputation to the Ministry of Welfare from 1993 to 1998 and held the post of Deputy Secretary, Handicapped Welfare Division and Project Director of District Rehabilitation Centre and also Director of Minorities Development Division and Tribal Development Division.

After returning from deputation, he held the post of Commissioner of Commerce and Industries Department, Health and Family Welfare and Tribal Development from 1998 to 2001.He was also the Registrar of Mizoram University from 2001 to 2004 .

Lawmkunga even held the post of State Chief Election Officer during the general election of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

He has also undergone various training programmes in India and abroad.

He was nominated by Election Commission of India as observer for Parliamentary by-elections of Myanmar held on April 1, 2012 .
