Imphal | September 24 : The Manipur Cabinet has passed the reservation of 3% quota of seats for disabled persons to government appointments under the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act 1995. This was informed by the spokesperson of the Secular Progressive Front government, MLA N Biren. The resolution to reserve 3% seats in government recruitments for disabled persons of the state was passed in a cabinet meeting held at the chief minister’s secretariat on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that All Tribal Disabled Union Manipur (ATDUM) has been demanding reservation of 3% quota in government jobs and a “chakka bandh” had been called in this connection last week. Legal action was warned to be taken up against the government if prompt response is not accorded to the demands of the ATDUM. The cabinet meeting also passed a resolution to recruit six additional superintendents of police (operation) and five deputy superintendents of police (operation) for various districts of Manipur. This decision was to meet the frequent complaints from the public to solve the numerous judicial cases in the different districts of the state, said the SPF spokesperson.
Also, to enhance revenue collection of the state, another resolution was passed to collect 10% premium of all lands where government offices are located, the spokesperson added. The cabinet also seriously discussed the situation in the state arising from the incident on July 23 in Imphal, said N. Biren and expressed the hope that things will be settled soon.
