Bandh affects normal life in Dima Hasao

Normal life was affected in Assam's Dima Hasao district following the 48-hour district bandh called from today by various tribal organisations.

All educational institutions, markets, transport system, banks and other financial institutions remained closed, while work in government offices were also affected, a senior district official said.

The bandh has been called by Indigenous Peoples Forum (IPF), N C Hills Indigenous Student Forum (NCHISF) and N C Hills Indigenous Woman Forum (NCHIWF) demanding creation of a new district under 3(C) of Article 244(2) and 275(1) of the Constitution's Sixth Schedule.

Haflong, Mahur and Harangajao were the most severely affected areas of the district due to the bandh.

The Dima Hasao district administration has opposed the bandh and issued instruction to the officials to attend offices as usual, the official added.
