
Rijiju was addressing an Autonomous District Council (ADC) election campaign for BJP candidates at Chandel district headquarters, bordering Myanmar, on Monday. ADC election is scheduled to be held on June 1 to elect 144 district council members in six ADCs – Chandel, Churachandpur, Sadar Hills, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul in five hill districts.
BJP, which has no MLA in the 60-member State Assembly, has fielded the maximum number of 121 candidates for the 144 ADC seats. There a total of 495 candidates in the polls.
Reacting to a question by reporters over the imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the NE on his arrival here on Sunday, Rijiju said that the Act could be withdrawn once the ground situation is conducive. He added that there can be no development without peace.
Regarding the violation of Suspension of Operation (with the government) by Kuki Revolutionary Front, an armed group, he said the matter will be looked into.
