Chapchar Kut celebrated with gaiety

IMPHAL, Mar 19 : The 1st branch level Chapchar Kut cum sports meet of Young Mizo Association (YMA) Phaizang branch was held from March 10 to 14 at Phaizang village in Churachandpur district amidst fanfare.

The celebration programme on March 13 (evening session) was attended by Darsangluaia alias Tetea, chairman of MPC (Defence Wing), Mangcha Thangzawm and Frankie P Gangte as the chief guest, chief host and Kut Pa respectively.

The cultural cum valedictory session on March 14 was attended by Lalniropuia, vice-president of Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), headquarters Manipur; P Kaizamang, secretary, SAMCA and Dr LS Gangte as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.

Lalhmangaihzuala, secretary, Group YMA, Manipur was the chief host.

Leaders of MZP (students' body), Saichang Area Mizo Chiefs' Association (SAMCA), YMA Chiengkawn branch and other dignitaries, amongst others, attended the celebration programme.

Presentation of lively cultural items and speeches were the colourful highlights of the celebration programme.

The exuberant Kut mood was kept alive throughout the duration by celebrated and budding crooners — Tracy Ngaihching and Mami Gangte, who belted out soul stirring numbers.

Ethnic Mizos all over the world celebrated the Chapchar Kut, a festival to celebrate the successful clearing of the ground for jhum farming.
