The Tangkhul women in Ukhrul district of Manipur took
out a 15-km long procession on Monday to protest against the bomb and
gun battles for two days during which two persons were killed and two
others were wounded.
The processionists narrowly escaped when attempts were made to detonate a bomb during the procession.
In
another development several women and youth organisations in Tamenglong
district have condemned the killing of a villager by an underground
organisation. More protests are planned against the excesses of the
outfit. On January 5, there was a bomb blast a Kasom in Ukhrul district
injuring a motorist and killing the pillion rider. The following day
there was a gun battle between two rival groups in which one person was
killed.
