Manipur scholar's death: Rajnath nudges Delhi Police Commissioner

New Delhi: Perturbed over the murder of a PhD scholar from Manipur, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday nudged Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi and directed him to send a report as early as possible about the progress of the investigation into the case.

The Home Minister told the Police Commissioner that attack on people from the northeast in the national capital was a matter of concern and urgent steps must be taken to check such incidents.

Singh told the Bassi to inform him about the progress of the case and action taken to nab the culprits involved in it as early as possible, sources said.

A 33-year-old PhD scholar from Manipur was found murdered with his neck slashed at his home in south Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur area last night.

The deceased, identified as Zingram Kengo, was from Tata Institute of Social Sciences. He had come to Delhi just months ago and was living in Kotla Mubarakpur in a rented accommodation.
