Kuki orgs set deadline to shift militants’ designated camp

Kuki civil organizations based in Chandel district has given the state government September 10 deadline to shift the designated  camp of the Kuki National Liberation Front (KNLF), one of the Kuki militants under tripartite suspension of operation with the state and Central government.
If the concern authorities failed to fulfill the desire of the people on or before September 10 next, it will launch a series of agitation, said a joint press statement of the civil bodies comprising among others bodies of chiefs of villages of Kuki in Chandel district, Kuki Students Organization (KSO) and Kuki Chiefs’ Forum.
The bodies insisted to comply with the orders of the Union home affairs issued on July 18, 2014 and state home department issued in 2013 to shift the designated camp of the KNLF from Chandel district within the stipulated time.
Kukis in Chandel district have been pressing the concern authorities to shift the newly designated camp of the KNLF near Semol village under Khengjoy sub-division of Chandel district, expressing apprehension of untoward incident as another designated camp of the UKLF was also located near the village.
KNLF has been alleging that the demand of the people was instigated by some vested interest.
KNLF recently joined the umbrella organisation Kuki National Organization (KNO) as its 15th constituent after the latter signed SoO extension agreement on August 30, 2013.
Earlier on January 21 last, the Semol village submitted a representation to the principal secretary (home) for opening a designated camp of KNLF at the village.
Accordingly, 40 cadres of KNLF were accommodated at the Moreh post of 9 Assam Rifles shifted to Semol on May 11 last.
