Manipur repoll passes off peacefully

CHANDEL (MANIPUR), Mar 5  – Repolling held in five hill districts in Manipur today was by and large peaceful except some minor incidents.

Kh Chandramani, DIG (Range II) told the media that the polling was by and large peaceful here.

Even though repolling was ordered at 67 polling stations across 9 Sssembly seats in five hill districts, polling in four polling stations – Makuilong, Lemta, Kadi and Dunong of Tamei seat in Tamenglong district has been deferred to Monday because of landslides in the area.

Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate K Raina of Tadubi seat has reportedly lodged a complaint demanding another repoll at three polling stations under his constituency following detaining of some of his workers during the day’s repolling.

A male voter SR John at Modi polling station of Chandel seat after casting his vote told The Assam Tribune that holding re-poll here again is not the sole responsibility of the Election authority.

Like the previous repoll held at 34 polling stations under 11 Assembly seats on February 4 last, the voters were frisked before casting their votes at the polling stations.

Manipur Sports Minister DD Thaisii and former Deputy Speaker K Raina were seeking re-election from Karong and Tadubi seats on Congress and NPF tickets respectively.
