China denies allegations of aiding northeast rebels

Beijing: China on Thursday dismissed charges that it was aiding insurgent groups in India's northeast, saying that it follows the policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

"The Chinese government always upholds the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Weimin said in a statement sent to a news agency.

"The report is completely inconsistent with facts," the statement said, apparently referring to reports quoting former Home Secretary G K Pillay as saying that insurgents in India's northeast were holding meetings with Chinese intelligence officials.

The reports also quoted Pillay as saying that India has given details of ULFA leader Paresh Barua's travel to China Yunnan province.
