The election to the Manipur Assembly is mostly likely to conduct in February 2012 along with five other states of the country.
The term of the current 9th Manipur Assembly expires on March 16, 2012.
Speaking to reporters at his office chamber Thursday, Manipur CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) PC Lawmkoonga said that the call centres have been activated in all the district headquarters so that electors able to lodge complaints over the grievances they confronted over the election process or against the conduct of officials in-charge.
Electors can now lodge their complaint with the help of a mobile phone/landline free of cost through the call centres open at the office of district electoral officers of each district.
The call centres would be controlled by the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, he said.
The call centres were activated acting on a direction of Election Commission of India ahead of the State Assembly election which is scheduled to be held sometime in early part of next year.
The service of 13 Data Entry Operations is being utilised in running the call centre and attending to the complaints of the electors which would have direct access not just to the Chief Electoral Officer but also the Election Commission.
Initially, the call centre would be operational only during office hours and it will be 24-hour service when the countdown to the election begins, the CEO explained.
After the call centre is made fully operational at the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Public Grievances Redressal Cells would be set up in all the nine districts, ADC Kangpokpi and Jiribam sub-division, he added.
Meanwhile, in a post election violent incident reported Wednesday night from Langthabal Assembly of Imphal West district, two persons sustained injuries when some unknown persons in combat dress assaulted workers and supporters of an aspirant candidate.
The unknown persons stopped the workers and supporters of intending candidate Karam Shyam Singh.
They also smashed at least four vehicles of the intending candidate before leaving the spot after giving warning not to work for the candidate (Karam Shyam).
In the assault, two active workers of the candidate, Sanatomba Singh (council of Lilong Nagar Panchayat) and Sajou Singh, sustained injuries and admitted at RIMS hospital, Imphal. Hospital source said their conditions serious but out of danger.
Intending candidate Karam Shyam alleged the assailants were sent out by Nongthonbam Singhajit Singh, another intending candidate of CPI in the same constituency (Langthabal Assembly Constituency).
He further alleged the assailants possessing guns and firing towards his workers.
Talking to reporters here, he said alleged Singhajit of hiring goons and threatening to his workers not to campaign in his favour. He also demanded police action against the assailants.
