Women slam plan to arrest SHDDC leaders

IMPHAL: The Sadar Hills Women Union (SHWU) strongly opposed the state cabinet's decision to arrest leaders of the agitating Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) for openly asking people of the area to arm themselves.

In pursuit of its decades-old demand, the SHDDC has been imposing an indefinite economic blockade on National Highways 39 and 53 since August 1.

On Tuesday, the cabinet, besides deciding to register FIRs against SHDDC leaders, also resolved to confiscate all licensed guns issued to the people of Sadar Hills in Senapati district.
