The health minister was speaking as chief guest the foundation day of Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association at Hotel Classic.
Jayentakumar asserted that even in war times, transportation of medicines and other life-saving materials were not prevented. He however added that the bandh “do not spare these items”.
“This is not an act to be done as a human being,” he said, adding essential service should be within the purview of bandh and blockade.
The indefinite economic blockade called by SHDDC did not give any exception to transportation of life-saving drugs despite repeated appeals from many civil organisations, particularly Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association. With oxygen running out of stock, except the emergency operations, all other operations remain edsuspended for around two weeks in Imphal including government run JNIMS and RIMS hospitals.
