Sadar Hills District Demand Committee ( SHDDC) has imposed an economic blockade on NH-39 and NH-53 since August 1 to press for its decades-old demand seeking creation of Sadar Hills district.
The United Naga Council ( UNC) has launched a similar stir to denounce the state government's alleged attempt to bifurcate the Naga-dominated areas to create new districts.
The new security arrangement is in addition to central paramilitary and state forces being deployed between Imphal and Jiribam-sub division, bordering Assam, along NH 53.
Manipur director general of police Yumnam Joykumar Singh issued an order to this effect with names of senior police officers and their subordinates to be sent for deployment on the route and the specific jurisdiction to be covered by them.
The officers list includes senior superintendent of police (Imphal West) L Kailun, who also holds the post of deputy inspector general of police.
Kailun and his available manpower would be deployed to ensure safety of vehicles between Kotlien to Keithelmanbi.
Other officials include, commanding officers of 5 BN Manipur Rifles, 1 BN Manipur Rifles, 2 BN Manipur Rifles and 8 BN Manipur Rifles and Deputy CO 7BN Manipur Rifles.
Commanding officers of 7 India Reserve Battalion (IRB), 6 IRB, 8 IRB, 2 IRB, 4 IRB, 3 IRB and Additional SP of Jiribam will also be deployed.
The officers would be utilizing with available manpower (forces) including their respective units for road opening patrol along the Imphal-Jiribam stretch, said the order.
It instructs that team should take position at their respective location before reaching the convoy of the empty and filled vehicles and should be withdrawn only after the convoy cross their respective areas of responsibility.
It further pointed out that detailed ROP team should be equipped with anti-riot equipments and they should be briefed properly about their duties before departure and debriefing be carried out after returning from duty.
The security arrangements will be come into effect on all days of movement of vehicles along the route.
