Life was partially affected following an indefinite strike called by the
Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) on the two highways
of Manipur demanding a district status for the Hills. Medical
services were badly hit causing difficulty to the common man as supply
of the essentials commodities and life-saving drugs were affected in the
state. All normal operations at RIMS and JN hospital have been
stopped due to non-availability of oxygen and the drugs. Oil
depots remained closed in the state and petrol was sold at Rs 100 per
litre in black market and LPG at Rs 1000 per cylinder.
Incidentally, most of the Naga organisations have opposed granting of
district status to Sadar Hills. According to the committee
members, a delegation is camping in New Delhi to appraise the Central
leaders about the issue and the agitation will not be called off until
the state government concedes to the demand. On the Nagaland
District status issue, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had said, We
cannot create another problem while trying to solve a problem.
