Stranded rice trucks cause traffic jam

Imphal, July 14 2011: About 300 rice trucks lined up in the FCI godowns at Sangaiprou for unloading of rice for the last one week has not only caused traffic jams but has also led to tiffs among passers by and the truckers.

Disclosing this at a press conference, president of United Club NH 39, Thongam Shyama Khaba Nganba said that these trucks which have been laying standstill in Sangaiprou Maning Leikai, Mamang Leikai, Paite Veng Road and Lukram Leirak along the FCI godown has caused a lot of trouble to the local people.

The troubles came up after reports of a rice truck making an entry into the official record without unloading the rice came up in news reports.

Rice laden trucks coming from FCI, Jiribam are now being well checked.

The same problems are being faced in FCI Jiribam as well, said Thongam Shyama Khaba Nganba.

This problem could be solved if the rice laden trucks are lined up in Sagolband Langjing Achouba ground and are allowed to enter the FCI godown one by one.

Traffic police needs to be involved in the act, he said.
