AMCO is not affiliated to any political parties and does not owe political allegiance or patronage. But because it believes in peace and harmony this campaign has been initiated, said Rev. Vaiphei at a campaign “attaining truth and justice, love and peace, equality, holistic development through people empowerment” at Kangpokpi KVC centre Monday.
The hills of Manipur are overburdened with ganja and Kani plantation. The farmers are Christians. This is totally against the precepts sanctioned by Christianity, said AMCO president.
Talking about the forthcoming state general election in an attempt to exorcise the ghost of electoral malpractices, Rev. Vaiphei said that both the politicians representing hill districts and the people living therein must shoulder the huge responsibility of ridding politics off corruption.
Dr Leben, a member of AMCO, speaking at the same occasion said the so-called people’s representatives of the hill districts are not elected but rather selected.
He warned the people against the use of money and muscle power. “Candidates must resist using money and muscle power, and the people must show downright objection to such practices of the leaders,” he said, while also appealing to underground outfits to stay away from electoral politics.
