Financial help for ethnic violence-hit students

SILCHAR, June 12: Eighteen school and college going students who were affected during the Hmar-Dimasa ethnic violence of 2003 were provided financial assistance of Rs 3,07,500 together. It is to be recollected that a large number of Dimasa families were the victims along with Hmars. The financial assistance was sanctioned by National Foundation for Communal Harmony, New Delhi. The assistance was handed over to the beneficiaries at a simple function organized in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Debashish Chakraborty handed over the amount to all the beneficiaries and said that they should make proper utilization of the financial assistance in their own interest. 15 of them were given Rs 18 thousand each, Rs 27 thousand to one and two others were given above rupees nine thousand each.
