Manipur's agriculture fair promotes newer farming methods

Imphal, May 9 : A three day agriculture fair was recently held here to spread awareness among the farmers about the need to learn newer methods of farming.

The fair served as a platform for both farmers and researchers to learn from each other and work together to boost the agricultural output.

"We are organizing such type of Agri Fair in order to popularize our technology, our products to the farmers and not only that but this is the platform for discussion among the scientist and farmers so, we brought a large number of farmers from different districts so that farmer can interact with the scientists," said M Premjit, Director of Extension Education of Central Agricultural University, Imphal

Groups from different parts of the state participated in it and showcased different products like high yield seeds for a better growth; newer models for irrigations, latest designed tractors for tilling the field, new models of animal husbandry and fisheries and modern day equipments for farming.

Hybrid agro products like pulses, rice, brinjals, and mustard were also exhibited at the stalls set up under the state department.

Students, farmers and locals interacted with the exhibitors and learned many new things.

"I am happy to participate in this northeast Agri Fair. From this fair we would like to tell about how to cultivate and produce the mustard oil in Manipur," said Talkhembam, a participant.

"Through this fair, students can learn things practically. Whatever they have learnt till now from their teachers, they will understand much better through the fair," Joy Kumar, a teacher.
