Wildlife produce seized from Manipur-Myanmar areas

Imphal, Mar 26 : The Assam Rifle troops have seized a large number of banned wildlife produce and drugs from Manipur-Myanmar border areas recently.

The banned wildlife products and drugs have been handed over to the superintendent of police, in presence of the forest and wildlife officials at Imphal West police station today.

Assam Rifles officials said the troops were keeping vigil in the Manipur-Myanmar areas and 42 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 26 Assam Rifles intercepted a huge consignment of banned wildlife produce and drugs on Mar 19 last.

They confiscated 301 kg Pangolin shells, one leopard skin and 19 kg of bones, including four leopard skulls.

In addition to wildlife products, 2.32 lakh diclofenac tablets were also recovered from a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle Yamthang, who is a resident of Moreh, was apprehended with the items.

This recovery, which is the biggest catch in the recent times, is a result of the strict measures being adopted by the Assam Rifles to break this chain of wildlife smuggling.
