Success of Manipur Hill bandh lauded

Imphal | November 29 : The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) has extended heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the individuals, NGOs, civil societies, political or non-political parties for their cooperation and support rendered during the 24-hour hill districts bandh which was called from November 26 midnight 26 to 27 midnight.
The bandh was called in protest against the alleged state government apathy towards the well being of the hill people, demanding the amendment of Village Authorities in Hill Areas, Act 1956, framing of rules under Manipur Reservation in posts and services (for SC/ST) Act, 1976. The PDA also demanded for enactment for framing laws for protection of natural resources exclusively for the hill district of Manipur so as to suit the interest of the hill tribes.
Further,  the organization also demanded implementation of National Tribal Policy, issued in 2006, which was prepared by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs as the first ever occasion in the last 62 years to address the issues of SC/ST and to enhance human development indictors among STs. They also stated that the political rights of the minority community should not be the property of majority community.
The organization further demanded for Non-deployment of IRB and Commando cadres posted in the hill districts where there is no law and order problem with the truce of peace. Hence, immediate review of the Cabinet decision is initiated as to recall the IRB/Commando/VDF forces from all the hill districts, stated the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA).
