Churachandpur, Dec 1 : The Manipur Hill Journalist Union (MHJU) in the strongest term condemned the highhandedness of some officers of the 3rd Assam Rifles (AR) who barged into the office of `The Lamka Post` at about 10:30 am on November 28 and threatening the Editor with dire consequences.
According to a statement of the MHJU the union strongly objected the abusive and undemocratic language: "you will be gone, press people are hopeless and are linked to UG`s," used against the members of media fraternity.
It said that the media was working under tremendous pressures from all sides and thus accusing them of having links with UG`s was unfair and viewed seriously by the union.
The Union demdanded that they desist from using such language in future.
Besides, it said threatening the fourth estate with dire consequences by an organ of the government is a black spot to the democracy of the country.
Further it asserted that the attitude of the supposed `Friends of the Hill Peoples` is incomprehensible.
Claiming as friends of the Hills people but threatening and using abusive language to them is deceitful, it said and added that the union, therefore, condemned in the strongest term the highhandedness of the officers of the 3rd Assam Rifles.
