Imphal, November 29 2009: The Zou Sangnaupang Pawlpi (Zou Students' Association), Imphal block has held its 14th annual conference cum prize distribution function yesterday at Kuki Inn here with cultural extravaganzas.
Meritorious award and annual sports award were given to meritorious and talented sportspersons within the community.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA T Mangibabu, who graced the function as the guest of honour, observed that Zou is one of the minority communities of the state.
Notwithstanding their small population, many members from the community have felt their presence in both civil and active services.
It is also laudable that the community has encouraged sports among its youths.
He said, all people in Manipur are Manipuris.
There is no distinct community and language as 'Manipuri.' The Zous have great role to play towards the development of Manipur.
T Mangibabu also urged all concerned to work together for the development of the state in unity.
Social Worker N Rajen said, students should be free from any kind of influence while noting that students are deprived of their education for the last three months.
Students should be made to learn freely without any hindrance.

President of United Zomi Organisation (UZO) and social worker, Manglianthang graced the function as chief host.
The meritorious award winners were TN Genevieve (CBSE), Thangminlun (CBSE, Arts), Niansuanching (COHSEM, Science), and Donhoikim, sixth rank in M Com exam (MU) .
Cultural programme and presentation of songs from various noted singers marked the function.
