IMPHAL, Sep 11 : Taking serious view of the gunning down of four KLA cadres and a truck driver by security forces at Mongkot village, the Kuki Inpi Manipur said Kuki people takes strong exception to sporadic attacks carried out by Indian security forces on Kuki underground groups despite the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact.
In a strongly worded statement, the Kuki apex body said the infamous deal called Suspension of Operation (SoO) which exists between the Indian government and the Kuki underground group is becoming farce.
Maintaining Kuki people always strives for mutual respect, peace and tranquility among the people and in the land, the KIM called upon the Joint Monitoring Cell to look into the Mongkot firing incident and see whether security forces action is compliant with terms and conditions of the SoO.
Since the SoO came into effect the Kuki people hoped that wanton killings and bloodshed would come to an end but the Mongkot incident in which five persons were slain seems to make the past hostilities raise its ugly head, KIM said in the statement adding the killing was done without slightest regard of human value.
Stating that people are aggrieved over the bloodbath and the turn of events in which the Maratha Light Infantry had asked the KLA cadres to alight from the truck and shot them at point blank after lining them at the roadside, the KIM said no person had witnessed any kind of provocation on part of underground cadres.
Security forces had resorted to this kind of bloodshed sloughtering even when the UG cadres had clearly informed the concern security forces and obtained permission to move around in the area, KIM statement said adding such premeditated act of murder could trigger a breakdown on the ongoing peace talk and could even led to distrust amongst SoO signing parties.
