BSNL NE-II Circle to launch high speed internet 'WIMAX'

Kohima, Sep 30 : Public sector telecommunication giant BSNL is all set to launch the next generation high speed internet network in Nagaland.

Chief General Manager of the BSNL North East Circle II (two) R Sanyal told reporters yesterday that 'WIMAX' (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access)- the fourth generation of high speed 'fully mobile internet access' - has reached Nagaland.

'WIMAX', described as a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of 'last mile' wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) can deliver data at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps with a coverage of 15 kilometers.

The CGM informed that the BSNL has already installed and commissioned 'WIMAX' towers in fourteen towns in Nagaland and nine more are under construction in some other towns. After completion of the towers, the BSNL will launch the WIMAX throughout the state.
